As the title insinuates, I'm reviewing the Darkness 1/8 scale figure, by Bell Fine!
First of all, I actually remembered to take a pic of her box. It's nothing special, but it works.
And now, onto the figure itself.
I do like the pose and face of this figure. The pose is one of the reasons I got her. The other figures available of her are prize figures, one of which is really boring, and a nendo. I love the nendo, but it isn't her as she appears in novel and the anime. And I always want both chibi AND not chibi.
First, I'll cover the positives. There aren't nearly as many of these as there are negatives, sadly.
Again, one positive is the pose, and face.
Another is the gradient on her hair. I don't know if I captured it well, but the orange and yellow gradient on her hair looks amazing.
The shiny gray/white paint on her armor is a nice touch. The series and novels show it as solid white, so I like how it's shiny, like armor should be. The photos I used to show her off illustrate this as well as the one I chose, so please check those out to see what I mean. :)
I also love the detail on the little wing on her shoulder. The painting gradient on it looks good, and there are little feather details.
The sculpt itself does look good, I like the folds, and the fact they included the curve of her back.
However, there are numerous flaws with this figure, something inexcusable on a scale, especially one at this price.
There are several instances of paint transfer, which at this price, is inexcusable.
and then there's THIS:
I'm not even sure what's going on here. It looks like the plastic warped while sculpting. I haven't even seen this on the worst of prize figures. This is inexcusable on a scale, and seriously subtracts some points.
And there's this, too:
A little dent. SERIOUSLY?! I was NOT thrilled. I know none of this was from transit, the box arrived in perfect condition. It's a Bell Fine not giving a damn issue. :(.
And finally.. her base. It looks like a prize figure base, I'm not kidding. :(. This is it.
Overall, here's my score:
Sculpt: 3/5. I love the pose, but there are defects. At this price, it's inexcusable.
Paint: 3/5/10. Paint transfer is shit at this price point.
Enjoyability: 3/5. Again, I like her pose, but the defects seriously do detract from enjoyment.
In a scale out of 10, I rate this a 7/10, because it is slightly better than total fail, but a lot of defects are inexcusable at this price. :(. I did not appreciate a figure that is little better than a prize figure quality wise being nearly $180.
And.. as a bonus, I know I showed this before, but this also shows the.. bonus. XD. I went for the bonus, and love it. :D.
