Samsung's Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 4 smartwatches have the same band size. However, size isn't the only thing that users need to consider.

Samsung has designed its Galaxy Watch line of smartwatches to have user-removable straps, but for those who wish to do so, knowing the right size is important. Users can change the strap of their smartwatch for various reasons. For some, it could be about style and a way to match their wearables with their outfits, while others may choose to swap their bands because of functionality, like replacing leather straps for silicone or nylon straps when exercising.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch line of smartwatches is available in different sizes, and while the size of the watch should determine the size of the strap, it is not always the case. For example, the Galaxy Watch 5, which is available in 40mm and 44mm sizes, and the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, which has a 45mm case, all use 20mm watch bands despite having different case sizes. The Galaxy Watch 5 Golf Edition and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro Golf Edition also use 20mm watch bands.
Size Isn't The Only Thing That Matters

Other Galaxy Watch models that use 20mm watch bands are the Galaxy Watch 4 (40mm and 44mm), Galaxy Watch 4 Classic (42mm and 46mm), Galaxy Watch 4 (41mm), Galaxy Watch Active 2 (40mm and 44mm), Galaxy Watch Active (40mm), and Galaxy Watch (42mm). Those who own the older Galaxy Watch 3 (45mm) and Galaxy Watch (46mm) use a different 22mm band, though. Since the band size is largely the same across the board, would it be possible to swap watch bands between these Galaxy Watch models?
Unfortunately, size isn't the only thing that matters. While the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic's 20mm bands will work with the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, not all the Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro bands work with the Galaxy Watch 4 series. Samsung specifically says the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro's Metal Link Bracelet, which costs a whopping $299, is only compatible with the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. Apart from the width of the band, buyers should also check compatibility when purchasing a first-party or third-party band.
Another factor worth remembering is the size of the band. Samsung offers certain bands, like the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic Metal Link band, in multiple sizes to cater to the different wrists of users. A person with a small wrist will find that the small or medium size bands provide a better and more comfortable fit than a larger band. After all size considerations are taken into account, the only things to worry about are preference and budget when choosing a strap for the Galaxy Watch.
